I was in QFC last night getting my fruit for the week when I came across these Honeycrisp Apples. I had never heard of them, but they priced at $2.99 a pound. Apples are kind of heavy, so I was a little leery. But, the description said they were crisp and sweet, so I bought three of them.
Wow.
They are really good. They're as crisp as a Granny Smith, yet sweet like a Red Delicious. The texture is a little weird, almost like honeycombs, but that's not a bad thing.
I'm not sure where these Honeycrisp Apples have been all my life, but I have a new fruit obsession.
[EDIT: I orginally had the name of these apples wrong!]
Is there a story behind this lovely fruit?

Wow, you're quick Reed! You commented before I had a chance to type in the text!

My sister introduced honeycrisp apples to me just last year. I'm not sure why I never came across them before either. Probably because they cost so much I just pass over them in the produce department. They are the best though!

Can't believe you are just now discovering the magic of the honeycrisp apple. You are correct. They are, in fact, delicious. Red Delicious is a misnomer. It should be Red Looks Delicious But Tastes Like Wax Covered Water Logged Sponge.
If you haven't discovered the magic of the Heirloom Tomato you should definitely get involved. They're circus freak in appearance but taste good enough to eat like an apple.

I concur with the fellow named Douglas. Honeycrisp apples kick the crap out of the seriously misnamed "Red Delicious" apples.
